I worry if my new born child caught it it wouldnt stand a chance.Im hoping they will give the vaccine to him-her,but then im thinking he-she may be to young for the vaccine and couldnt cope with it.Im just really worried for small babys.

Two groups will get priority when the swine flu vaccine become available in September/October 2010 – these are, young infants and their mothers and pensioners.

There will be enough vaccine available for the entire UK population.

  2. Rhianna Returns says:

Yes, pregnant woman, children, those aged 65 and over and those with known medical risk factors as well as front line health care workers will be given the vaccine first.

You are right to be concerned. Swine flu is spreading faster than ever according to Dr. Anne Schuchat, director for National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the CDC. She states,
“We are particularly concerned about pregnant women; we’re seeing fatalities and life-threatening illnesses that have occurred in pregnant women in the Southern Hemisphere,” Schuchat said. “We are expecting pregnant women to get a recommendation to get the H1N1 vaccine to reduce the risk of complications from influenza. We know many pregnant women don’t like to take any drugs, but this is one instance where you need to be much more concerned about your health than the baby’s health.”
I’m not sure about vaccines for babies. We can all hope it can be controlled by April. Right now you need to take care of yourself and keep your immune system as healthy as possible, and get as much information as possible.
Good luck to you and your little one.
