Stomach problems, vomiting, diorrhea for several days, food poisoning?

February 5th, 2011 | Flu Symptoms and Signs Scroll Down To Read Answers To The Question

So, on Wednesday night I start feeling sick and tired, getting occasional stomach cramps.

On Thursday night, I ended up vomiting. By this morning (Saturday), it was firing out my other end.

Now, I’ve had mild food poisoning symptoms before but after vomiting or a few trips to the bathroom, things usually clear up. The difference is this time that although the nausea has passed, I’m still getting stomach cramps and I have no desire to eat (or smoke, same part of the brain involved?).

So, if its still with me by Monday, I will be going to see the doctor but my main question is :

How long can food poisoning (assuming thats what this is) stay in your system like this? Or could this just be a stomach bug I picked up?
Well, its lasted longer than 48 hours now and the only symptom that has gone is the nausea so I will assume that I have some sort of food poisoning issue, will go see the doc on Monday.

Thanks for your replies.

actually sounds like a virus…my sister had the same thing and the docs said thats what it is. it might last a few days. take loads of fluids, siping small sips of water every five minutes…painkillers if required. hope u feel better.

sounds like norovirus. it is usually spread through hand contact , food, and can live for a long time on surfaces, even after they have been cleaned. do your best to take care of your immune system, drink lots of water, try to get some calories into yourself. DO Not have contact with anybody, especially children and the elderly, as it can be deadly to them. quarentine yourself as much as possible, and if you do have to go out for food or something, try not to touch anything and wash your hand a lot to not infect anyone. when youre feeling better, reallly clean your place. if you work in food service take as much time off as you can- you may still be contagious up to ten days. many people do not take it seriously, and that is why norovirus is so common and spreads so quickly. good luck! i know you’re suffering, but itll be over soon

Most stomach virus’s only last up to about 24 hrs.

It’s more than likely you have a sever form of food poisoning, My cousin was very sick like that one time, he ate in a restraunt, and got sever salmonella, he was sick for two whole weeks, he had to be put in the hospital and on IV’s to keep him alive!

Hope you get to feelin’ better!

prob a tummy bug.. you will eat when you’re ready just drink loads of water until then and have a dry biscuit

me and my family had this and we got our stools tested and it was campylobacter ( food poisening) it lasts about 2 weeks i’m afraid, its awful. good luck hope it goes away soon

you may have norovirus and this can last for 12 – 48 hours.

Or c.diff (clostridium difficile) in which case you must be seen by a GP as you can become really unwell with this as it is often difficult to kill. Your symptoms do match this and food poisoning.

You must ensure you do not become dehydrated.

I suggest sticking to clear fluids and avoiding solid foods for now. I personally think you should obtain a sample of your diarrhoea and get it sent of to histology to see what bug you are dealing with here or if it is food poisoning.
