Should I get the seasonal flu vaccine – Pregnant in UK?

January 29th, 2011 | Flu Symptoms and Signs Scroll Down To Read Answers To The Question

I’ve heard for a while now that they are encouraging pregnant women to get the seasonal flu vaccine saying that it covers swine flu. Pregnant women are supposed to be particularly at risk.

I have mixed feelings and I’m unsure whether I should get it. Is it really safe and worth it? I’m 34 week pregnant.

I got it and didn’t think to much of it because I was more worried about getting that sick instead of just getting the shot, but before I got the shot I’ve already had two different colds at two different times in my pregnancy.

i’m 11 weeks and i live in the uk as well, as we both no, swine flu has come back again and its us pregnant women that are going to suffer the most if we catch it, i’ve booked my jab and i’m getting it done at the doctors tomorrow, they said its safe and that nothing as ever come up that a woman has had problems due to having the jab. Don’t let anyone else make your decision for you, its entirely up to you whether your comfortable with it or not, just make sure you read up on it first and feel that’s its the right thing for you. ive written a link down to the baby centre website where someone has asked your question and they have answered it in much detail as they can, if you have anymore questions ring your doctors or the nhs and they will ansew them to re-ensure you that woman who was pregnant have had the flu jab before and everything has turned out right!

also congrats and best of luck with your decision either way everything will be fine xx

My doctor said that I should get it and I did. I trust her enough to do as she says ’cause I certainly don’t want to get that horrible flu this year!

  4. xs.essex says:

Yes you should because you are more vulnerable to flu than most people which could be serious for you (possibly fatal) and extremely serious for your baby.
Yes it is safe. It has been fully tested.

  5. William T says:

Yes, it’s completely safe and very effective.

  6. Laila says:

I’m sorry I have to disagree with most people here, don’t get it. It hasn’t been tested properly against women who are pregnant and there have been reports of babies being born with problems. I know it is a risk to take but the flu vaccine isn’t even guaranteed to protect you anyway, looks like the strain has changed this year.

For the sake of your baby please don’t get it!

I encourage you to read my extensive article on the flu vaccine, hopefully it will help you make the right decision:
