I would just like to know if a vet should operate on a dog that has equine influenza?

Just to comfim it is EQUINE INFLUENZA. It is on the post mortem report in black and white. The vet has been closed down by the authorities whilst more investigations are going on. Please, as I said before I only want to hear of people who know about this. I know only a few outbreaks have occured of this, New York being the most investigated one, and to date there have only been 2 cases in England I think, I don’t know if more have been registered.
The operation was an obstruction in the stomach that turned out to be a hernia.
Equine is horse.
Do you mean your dog had flu and your vet operated?
Its not right to give a dog anaesthetic if its already got breathing problems or is ill, so no its not right. A dog should be fit and healthy prior to any sort of surgery, unless its for an emergency, like its been run over by a car and will die without the treatment. Routine procedures and schedules operations should be postponed until the dog is fit and well. Otherwise the immune system is already compromised.
A dog is not a horse so it cannot have equine influenza. You do know a dog is a canine and a horse is an equine…right?
Whether or not the vet should have done surgery on a dog with… whatever it was you think your dog had, depends on whether or not the surgery needed to be done.

What operation do you suggest for influenza, irrespective of what type it is?
Agree with the others, you use canine and equine in the same sentence, you’ve obviously got a lot to learn about animal care.
This is a joke right? I know I’m learning something new everyday, despite being in dogs for ……., but I’ve never heard of this!! So, leaving that aside, what was the operation for?
I’d imagine a vet wouldn’t do surgery on an already sick (with something else) animal, especially one with a respiratory infection!!
Edit – Equine influenza affects ….. HORSES AND PONIES. Canine influenza affects ….. DOGS. Okay? If a dog has a gastric torsion, or needs a C.Section, or other life-threatening condition that requires immediate surgery, I imagine a vet would go ahead. If the dog is having elected surgery, ie it’s not an emergency, fgs. the vet would not go ahead to the operation. Strange, very strange …. mutter, mutter.

What sort of operation are we talking about? I dont think a vet should preform surgery on a dog that is suffering from an infection like this unless it is some how to help the condition, as the dogs recovery will be affect by the canine influenza.
a vet should only operate on a dog with influenze if he absolutely has to. i am sure that he must have discussed the risks with you before undertaking this operation, or else that is bad practice.
This is actually my dog that died on Monday night and I had a report from the vet this morning and she actually spelt the name of the flu to me which was EQUINE INFLUENZA now I am not a vet and do not know all the terminology that they use.
As me or Jo are not vets and we saw this site where it does actually say that the virus has jumped from horses to dogs, and what the vets told us We thought it was called that.

But basically all I wanted to know is should the vet operated on a dog who had a fever or high blood pressure.
She did do an xray to see if there was an obstruction and that showed clear but she still went ahead and did the operation this is what we want to contest Why did she open up my poor boy?????
