I’m pregnant with my first child and don’t want to get my baby vaccinated?

January 24th, 2011 | Flu Symptoms and Signs Scroll Down To Read Answers To The Question

Since I was a child I refused vaccines, perhaps because I was more scared of needles, but mostly because I didn’t see a point? After all I had hardly ever gotten sick?
My mom is a Registered Nurse and has never had a choice about Vaccines… its mandatory to have ALL vaccines and get her regular flu shots etc.
She never ever pushed us to get our flu shot. My mom has had the flu probably every other year or once a year… My sisters and I have NEVER had the flu.
I’m now coming to the point where I need to make a decision about my unborn baby, I am no sheeple and I really am debating about vaccinating my baby at all.
I had a friend in school who father was a doctor and he never vaccinated any of his children, my friend had NEVER had a needle in her life and had NEVER been sick.
Of course I had my vaccinations as a baby, my mom didn’t know any better, she just went along with the regular “routine”.
Any others had this same debate? What did you decide?
I’m leaning towards….. no vaccines for my baby, after all, God made our bodies to be healthy not sick. He did not make immunizations, he made our bodies to heal themselves. And, they do.

Edit: I am not a religious person at all…. I am a spiritual person, so this has NOTHING to with with religion in my case.
The public has been continually lied to, intimidated, and manipulated via the
Media and the doctors ! Doctors are threatened with loss of their medical
license if they don’t comply to the government’s pressures ! Doctors are
not allowed to tell you the truth; and in fact, very few of them even
know the truth about the vaccinations themselves. They are only taught
to push the vaccination program in medical school; they are not taught
what the adverse reactions are. They are taught that everything that
happens to a child\baby after a vaccination is “to be expected!!”
They are taught how to get reluctant parents to “obey the rules” set forth
by the government. The drug companies are the ones who foster the
medical schools, and primarily are the ones who dictate what doctors are
taught. After all, these future doctors are the drug companies future
drug pushers and salesmen !!

  1. *Laura* says:

PRO VACCINATING MOMMY HERE. It would suck if my child got something from your child b/c they weren’t old enough to get the vaccination yet and your kid got whatever sickness it was and my kid hadn’t been vaccinated b/c she couldn’t be b/c of her age. I agree with vaccination, but I don’t try to push it on anyone. I just think it’s for the best that kids get their vaccines.

EDIT-for me,it was just that. The benefits of the vaccines outweigh the risks of the vaccines. The risks are barely there at all anyways.

  2. Christine says:

It’s your choice, if you choose to do so does not make you a follower of anyone. Do what YOU think is best for YOUR child. Don’t do it, or not because of what others may tell you.

  3. Jessy says:

I am in this debate with myself as well. But I have no relegious views on this. On one hand I dont like the thought of not knowing exactly what is in the shots, but on the other hand, the reason why the united states doesnt have all the diseases anymore (rubella, measles, smallpox) is because of the vaccinations. The benefit almost outweighs the risk….

  4. ♥▓▒♥ஜ●♍/♏/♑ pancake ♍ ஜ♥♥▒░ says:

God made our bodies to be healthy not sick. He did not make immunizations, he made our bodies to heal themselves. And, they do.

i agree w you on that, do what you feel is best …and CONGRATS so happy for you =]

  5. ♥Vincent & Aubriana's Mommy♥ says:

If you plan on not vaccinating I suggest you plan on homeschooling as well, because the rest of us who do chose to vaccinate and keep our children safe would rather them not catch something from yours.

  6. Rachel D says:

Oh my please don’t talk about God making your bodies to be healthy and not sick or you’ll really upset all those people out there with horrible cancer or even a simple stomach flu. Everyone gets sick, so that statement doesn’t make sense. And then you have those who get sick and DIE from it, therefore our bodies do not always heal themselves. If your the religious type it seems to make more sense to think of it along the lines of, God gave us the medical capabilities and knowledge to prevent sickness or to fight it, so we should do what we can. As far as the vaccines go, i understand your restraint, not wanting to pump a kid full of them. I’d get as much information possible about ALL the vaccines babies receive after being born and in the following months and years and decide which ones are best and which you do not feel comfortable with. I believe that there are plenty of vaccines that do way more good than harm and are completely worth getting, but i have heard stuff about increased chances of autism and such, so i’d look into what maybe isn’t so necessary and pass on that stuff.

  7. Timid Women Rarely Make History says:

Flu shots are one thing to refuse-that’s fine. I don’t get flu shots either. But when it comes to immunizations/vaccines. I have a different view altogether. They protect your baby against things that could make them very ill-even kill them. This world is not as safe as it seems. Especially for a young child with a still developing immune system.

As for my daughter. Her father and I have chosen to vaccinate. She’s nine months and has only had TWO colds since she was born. She’s never had any problems with her shots-not even running a fever.

    _edit_
My daughter’s Ped never, not once tried to push or talk up vaccinations to us. They just asked us if we planned to or not,and then dropped the topic altogether.

  8. Noah's Mommy & expecting Ava says:

    Lol… wow.

I vaccinate my son and will vaccinate my daughter. Your argument for not vaccinating your child is because you know people that didn’t get sick while being unvaccinated. That’s like saying I know someone that smoked their entire life and didn’t develop lung cancer, or someone that ODed on drugs but didn’t have any ill results because of it. Just because you know a handful of people that were “okay” doesn’t mean that’s the case for everyone.

I’m not trying to change your mind, it’s your decision to make in the end, but please do some proper research on this before you make any final decisions. If you get some educated information under your belt and still decide to not vaccinate then so be it. My thoughts are better safe than sorry.

  9. cathrl69 says:

I decided I didn’t want my child dead from measles or polio. You do know what the infant mortality rate was before vaccinations, right? When God was running it without help from modern medicine?

“My sisters and I have NEVER had the flu.”

    Congratulations, you have been lucky.

I’ve never been hit by a car, or seen anyone be hit by a car. I guess it’s safe for me to let my kids run across the road without looking, then. No?

This is a child’s life you’re talking about. Ignorance of statistics at the level of a ten year old really isn’t a terribly impressive start to parenting.

And please stop saying your stupidity is Christian. You’re making my religion look bad.

  10. cassie L says:

Wont your child need all the vaccinations before it starts school. I know if my son was missing one he wasn’t even allowed to register for kindergarten.

  11. mike k says:

Don’t listen to the wackos here. Vincent & Aubriana’s Mommy has it right.
If you don’t vaccinate your child, don’t expect him/her to be admitted to school.
Your ignorance should not be the cause of health problems for responsible parents who have immunized their kids.
    Immunization saves lives.
This isn’t a religous question. It is a scientific fact.

  12. Helen says:

OMG!!! LOL!!! “god made our bodies to be healthy not sick” tell that to all the people suffering from cancer etc. Some diseases that the vaccines protect your child from can be life threatening. If your ok with that then what a fool you are.
But hey – if you don’t get it done god made your body to be healthy, so you’ll be ok won’t you??!!!!
    Some people make me laugh.

For all you saying it does – our body doesn’t heal itself.

  13. Katerina says:

I agree with all the pro-vaccination moms on here and just want to add that you, your sister, and your friend have probably never gotten sick because everyone around you all was vaccinated. If everyone just stopped getting vaccinated, viruses like measles, smallpox, and polio would rise again. As everyone has stated….the benefit far outweighs the risk.

  14. I Don't Want a Name says:

Don’t listen to the people that say your child won’t be allowed to go to school. They obviously haven’t done their research. Depending on the state you live in, all you need is a waiver (different states have different waivers..some you have to claim it is religious reasons, some it is ethical).

Besides, how can your child get their child sick if they are vaccinated? Hm, maybe because vaccines don’t always work.

Either way, it is YOUR decision whether or not you want to vaccinate. You don’t need anyone else’s approval. The only thing it starts on here is debates. My boys are vaccinated, but I have done the research and at one point I did not want to vaccinate due to some of the materials that are used in the vaccines. I can understand both sides.

  15. Army Bride 7/23/08... Pregnant! says:

I don’t know about Canada but around here you can get a waiver if you don’t want to vaccinate so you can still send them to public schools.

And to those who think your kids will catch something from un-vaccinated children I have news for you. Herd Immunity is a LIE. A BIG FAT LIE made up by the companies that make vaccines. Just look at the recent ‘outbreaks’. 80% or more of the children affected were completely up to date on their vaccinations. Vaccinated children can still catch or harbor these diseases. In fact the vaccinated children are more of a danger to the un-vaccinated children than the other way around BECAUSE they can be carriers of the diseases without knowing it.

Personally I’m more into selective and delayed vaccinations. I do my research and determine whats actually worth vaccinating against. For example Hep B and chicken pox can wait but I won’t vaccinate for HPV because I feel the risks outweigh any benefits.

  16. katsura3568 says:

Let me start by saying I am in the “to each his/her own” camp. However, that only applies to those who have truly educated themselves.

I vaccinate, but only select vax’s and on a very delayed schedule. I didn’t pump my newborns full of vax’s every couple of months, but by the time they go to school at age 4, they will be caught up (they have to be or they don’t get to go to school). My 25 mo. old has not yet had her 15 mo. vax’s, but by the time she’s 4, she’ll have had them all.

“God made our bodies to be healthy not sick………he made our bodies to heal themselves. And, they do.”
What?! So, hospitals are what, full of people looking to escape reality? Atheists? Lucky are you who has never experienced a loved one decline or die due to cancer, heart disease, stroke, mental illness, etc. And please, PLEASE, for the love of said God, do not say this to anyone who has a child with a terminal illness.

“Doctors are not allowed to tell you the truth; and in fact, very few of them even know the truth about the vaccinations themselves.”
And, what, you know “the truth?” What is this “truth” of which you speak? And did God tell you “the truth?” Because if not, you get “the truth” from the same sources we all do………the very “media and doctors” you accuse of propagandizing “the truth.”

“They are taught that everything that happens to a childbaby after a vaccination is “to be expected!!”
Hmmm…..my babies did very well with the vaccinations. They didn’t cry, no redness or soreness, no reaction whatsoever. They are now 2 and 4. The 4 year old is smart as a whip – much smarter than her peers, so much so that she doesn’t even have much in common with them, she would rather sit on the sofa and chat with their parents. My 2 year old is very much on target in speech, congitive thinking, both gross and fine motor skills. She is not nearly as “advanced” as her big sister, but she’s right where she should be for a 2 year old.
So, I guess you’re right on that point, whatever “happened to [them] after a vaccination” is to be expected. I’d give my 2 yr old extra doses of vaccines if they, “as expected,” are what made my 4 year old so smart.

I’m no fan of drug companies, but don’t you find it even remotely odd that illnesses like smallpox, polio, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella and myriad others have been virtually wiped from the population that vaccinates against these illnesses? Do you really think its just coincidence? Do you really think its propaganda?

Do you have any idea of what the infant mortality risk was before vaccinations?
Do you have any idea of what the average lifespan was before vaccinations and other medical advances?

Do you really think its a coincidence and that God made the human body heal “better” in parallel with these medical advances?

God is one thing. Medical science is something completely different. And they don’t have to be at odds. After all, God gave us the brains that we use for research and discovery and to move forward with medicine and technology.

    And that’s a good thing.

  17. Lisa K says:

I’m curious what medical school you went to- you are very specific about what is taught in medical school so I am assuming you are speaking from personal experience. It is certainly very different from what I experienced in medical school, and I don’t know what you’re talking about regarding being threatened with loss of the medical license. Of course you can lose your medical license for infractions of state laws, but educating people on the risks and benefits of vaccines is not against the law!

Whether you want to call yourself religious or spiritual, I don’t see your point. The way I see it, God created us with different talents and callings, some to become doctors and nurses, or to invent things that will make our lives better. I guess you don’t drive a car, either, or shop at a grocery store, or use any other modern conveniences (God didn’t create them either)! He didn’t make clothes either! (He did make fig leaves, though!)

It sounds like you have already made up your mind but in case you haven’t, read this.

  18. thehonestlady says:

Well, I am a Mother of 2 and I did have my children vaccinated, and I am glad I did because I think it is very important because if an unvaccinated child does get lets say measles, then even though your child will most likely get over the illness just fine and then have the resistance to it, it has an incubation period. During that incubation period you may go to the mall, park, birthday party, etc without knowing your child is a carrier and then infect a baby who has not been vaccinated and your child could cause that baby to die. This is a proven fact. How would you feel knowing that?

HOWEVER….Here is my objection to the way vaccinations are give now. I think that the “combined” doses of vaccines are a HUGE mistake!! I have been a therapist for many years, and within the past 10 or so years Autism has been on the rise RAPID rise throughout this country, and I believe that it is a direct corolation to the way the vaccines are given. There is much debate about vaccines causing Autism, check it out. I really think that once they started doing these combined doses that that is the reason why this is happening. For many little babies, their little bodies can’t handle all the antiboties at one time and it directly affects the brain. My daughter had horrible reactions to the combined vaccines, and I refused to have them combined anymore. Yes, there is more pricking over a longer period of time, but IMHO much, much safer. I don’t think it should be a question whether or not to vaccinate your child. I think it is how and what you will vaccinate your child with!! You have a choice on what vaccines to allow and which ones not, it doesn’t have to be an all or nothing type of situation. The best thing to do is educate yourself, talk to the pediatrician and get sound advice. There is tons of information out there, so take a look and really weigh the pros and cons. Look at each vaccine and decide what you think is best. Congratulations! Good question.

  19. mehl says:

My father didn’t get my sister, brother, or myself vaccinated.
He told the schools it was for religious reasons but that was back in the 70s and 80s so I don’t know if that would fly anymore.
Autism has been linked to vaccinations as well as other serious diseases.
My brother, sister, father, and I take supplements and have never had any serious illnesses.

I would never get my children vaccinated. All of you over-protective pompus assholes need to get off your high horse, stop being condescending jerks to the person who posted the question, and DO SOME RESEARCH.

Oh, and do you realize the cases of autism and other diseases have SPIKED since vaccinations.

  20. missmara42 says:

I have not immunized my daughter, nor do I plan to. I was fully immunized as a child and had all my boosters; and yet I still had mumps, pertussis, and rubella. I also suffered severe reactions every time I was immunized. I started getting my son immunized when he was a baby, and he also suffered severe reactions. He ended up in intensive care twice within hours of his first 2 vaccinations. I will not take the same risk with my daughter. I understand that in most cases they are a good thing, but with my children the benefits do not outweigh the risks. I also have serious objections to some of the ingredients in the vaccines, but it is due to my personal experiences that I will not Vaccines are not 100% effective but vaccine injuries are 100% preventable. FYI, there are NO vaccines that are required for your child to go to school or daycare. Every state has exemptions and you can sign wavers to keep your child vaccine free if that is your choice. And to the pro vaccinating mom who thinks my not vaccinated child is a threat to her vaccinated child, if vaccines are effective my child is no threat to her vaccinated child, but because some vaccines contain weakened viruses her vaccinated child IS a threat to my child.
