  1. Waffles+Toast says:

You would have to be really old to get the flu in 1918

  2. Carla-Leigh says:

Bad news i wernt born then =[

  3. Dr Fegg says:

I think I had it in a past life. Does that count?

  4. NatNat says:

Interesting, cos apparently when the vaccine comes out, there will only be enough for half the population so it will go to high risk first, kids, the already sick and elderly! If the elderly are now immune, then maybe it can go to the parents of the kids, cos without parents, where does that leave the kids!

  5. Oh no! says:

I got it in 1918 but died and have now been reincarnated. Does that count?

  6. valeriaaaaa:) says:

    yay!

  7. yumeheathbar says:

damn, too bad i was born in 1994. sucks for me

  8. Amokachi says:

awwww only 66 years too late

  9. Palm says:

  10. fiona says:

    Kind of like saying

If your dead then you’re immune to the flu.

  11. Brittany says:

Wouldn’t you be kind of, well, DEAD if you had it that long ago??? Ya, almost. People that old are not gonna be out much, so I don’t think they have anything to worry about anyways.Seriously, Lol. I was only born like, 80 something years later

  12. danceswithwolves says:

    thats good news Steph

I can actually say that the chances are that I am immune because my great grandma survived the flu epidemic in 1918 when her sisters and brother all sadly died from it so I am hoping that means she passed on her immunity to me

    what do you think?

  13. Miguel says:

    Come on!

  14. Helen S says:

Wow Steph! That’s fantastic news! Unfortunately not even my father-in-law will qualify for that as he’s only 88 next month – seems as though he’s going to have to have the jab! Who do you think on here qualifies?

  15. thinpinblue says:

Thank God for that. You mean that Im safe at 105

  16. SHAMB✪™ 5dtg says:

  17. Bec & Ali Mac says:

    My Grandad will be pleased….
Well,he would if he hadn’t already been dead for the past 15 years, anyway,

  18. SBD says:

Well, my nan – who was born in 1906 and is still alive today (103!!) had Spanish Influenza in 1918 and she survived. Apparently the flu then killed more people than were killed in WW1.!!!

Perhaps she’ll have passed down some immunity?!

  19. tgr1013 says:

Maybe…just maybe a transfusion of 1918 blood could give us antibodies…trouble is there can’t be too many of them around even if they are healthy enough to give blood

  20. NutstersChick says:

Drat, ( ONLY ) 60 years too late.

  21. S-M says:

    that’s me OK then.

  24. RichB says:

Hmm. My Grandad was alive in 1918, but I don’t know if he had the flu then. I’ll ask him…

  25. beatle1909 says:

    here today, dead tomorrow!

  26. Aviator says:

THIS IS BAD NEWS!!! if the strain of flu that caused the pandemic in 1918 is close enough to swine flu that people who had it can be immune to it, it means that the swine flu can mutate just as easily as the 1918 flu and become just as deadly.

Also, because the swine flu did not appear during the normal flu season means that there is a larger chance that a it could mutate into a worse strain during the normal flu season.

I am disappointed that the media has stopped covering the swine flu just as quickly as they started. What happened to people freaking out, wearing hospital masks when going outside, and closing schools for 2 weeks because of one case?

The swine flu hasn’t magically been fixed. People need to pay more attention to it, because although it isn’t that bad now, it could get a whole lot worse.

  27. Kerry says:

    SM’s ok then.

  28. Hypocrite says:

So I should try to get it around twenty past seven? I might be a buffer compared to some of the winkles on here, but I’m not that old.

  29. Rosina Computer Idiot says:

Well that’s seriously comforting news! Where do they find these people? The next thing will be that all those who survived the Black Death need not worry about getting it again!

  30. the old dog says:

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!

  31. simm101 says:

It’s alright fellas, if you were born before 1957 you wont be forced to wear a face mask, although you can should you feel the need. My monies staying in my pocket.

  32. Claire C says:

That’s a bummer since I’ve just recovered from Swine Flu :(

If only I’d have been 91 years old, I’d have been spared that small bout of caughing, sneezing, headaches and runny nose…

  33. bgee2001ca says:

    EH? speak louder.

  34. Chaz says:

What, are they going to make a vaccine from any 90yr old plus i,f they stand around long enough? Leave the poor old sods alone haven’t they been through enough? The Depression, WW2, Suez, having to sell their house to pay for care, & seeing the country taken over. It’s enough to make anyone want to chuck the towel in.
Mind you,I might just move in with my Nan to be on the safe side!

  35. Steve says:

I think people should strengthen the immune system to maintain health and fight diseases through preventative care, like exercise, healthy diet which is rich in fruits and vegetables and low in processed foods, get good amount of sleep. All these can build a healthy body with strong immune defense system that ward off any illnesses passing by.

However, people nowadays may find hard to maintain healthy lifestyle and healthy diet to get sufficient essential nutrients for building a strong immune system. Therefore the only way to make sure we get the most optimized nutrition is to incorporate quality supplements into our diets. Supplements works by accentuating the body’s defenses, boosting the immune system naturally, and hence, help to battle viruses and bacteria. They are ideally taken before serious symptoms occur. When everyone around you is falling victim to certain diseases, it is best to consult your herbal treatment expert and take a proactive approach to your medical treatment.
Even if no one around you are suffering from illness, it may be worth it to pursue a course of herbal treatments to boost your immune system, especially before any major work or personal events. However, even after the onset of symptoms, these supplements can greatly reduce the severity and length of the illness. Feeling better is half the battle when it comes to overcoming illness.
