How does this flu differ from the 1918 pandemic? The news is saying the 1918 flu pandemic started mild like this… but the websites I’ve been to said that it was fairly deadly fairly quick.
does anyone know more information?
Is anyone worried this strain of H1N1 will go the same way? Be mild in the first swing, then get more and more deadly?

What is the USA doing differently today that it did not do for the 1918 Spanish Flu? In 1918, 2% of people who became infected with the flu died.

There was no effective treatment.
Viruses had not been discovered so they did not know that it was an influenza A virus, H1N1 to be specific. They assumed it was a bacteria back then, hence the name of the bacteria Haemophilus influenzae, or H flu, which is a common germ found in respiratory tracts. Antibiotics do nothing for a virus.
Bed rest and treatment for the pneumonia it caused was about all that could be done.

Does A Graph Of Mortality Rates Of The Swine Flu Resemble That Of The 1918 Spanish Flu(a W)or The Normal U?

A U shape graph as is normal for epidemics indicates a higher death rate among the very young & the very old. A W shape graph indicates a 3rd peak in the middle indicating a higher death rate among young adults. One theory suggest this peak is due to deaths caused by the strong reaction (ie higher fever) to this illness of this age ranges increased immunity.

In 1918 H1N1 Strain of Influenza that got the nickname “Spanish Flu” because it was traced back to a pig farm in Spain, killed 50 million people, what is the difference between that Strain of Influenza and the current pandemic we are facing now?
