A U shape graph as is normal for epidemics indicates a higher death rate among the very young & the very old. A W shape graph indicates a 3rd peak in the middle indicating a higher death rate among young adults. One theory suggest this peak is due to deaths caused by the strong reaction (ie higher fever) to this illness of this age ranges increased immunity.
