When I have a cold or flu it usually ends with a very dry painful cough. Coughing fits start with little or no warning and remind me of when I had whooping cough as a child. These spasms can be very frightening leaving me fighting for breath and feeling totally exhausted, and the current cough is the worse I have experienced for years.
So far I have tried Pholcodine dry cough linctus, but this doesn’t seem to be working very well this time.
As I have Diabetes type 2 I have seen a doctor, and been put on a course of antibiotics.
As winter hasn’t started yet I am dreading the next few months, and would also like to know if there is anything I can do or take as a preventative for the future. I will be particularly interested to know of any alternative remedies
.

Please get yourself checked for TROPICAL EOSINOPHILIA. It will show up as a raised eosinophil count in your blood. Treatment is effective with a course of Hetrazan. Talk to your own doctor about it. Cheer up and do not fear the winters.
mix some 3 tsp honey with 5 drops of ginger juice and small particles of solid ginger.
Have this mixture three times a day and it will be gone in no time .
p.s-adding pepper to the mixture can also enhance it
Honey and lemon is a good old fashioned cure and is very soothing.
camomile or nettle tea with a shot of brandy and a spoonful of honey.
1 gram of tumeric to a teaspoon of honey
half a teaspoon of tumeric powder in warm milk
works for me good luck….

Whooping cough in infancy has most likely left you with a scarred lung ,I have a lovely lung doctor who put me through lot`s of tests,I went to him for a year and am now free,
Do you smoke ,if you do give up now or it will lead to worse than a cough,
I was told cough linctus doesn`t work as it goes down a different part of your throat to where the cough is irritating you ,
I couldn`t sleep at night do to my cough I used to keep fisher mans friends sweets beside the bed ,they help
think you should get your doctor to send you to a lung specialist ,he will sort you out ,
Mine is under control now as yours could be ,don`t leave it ,good luck there is nothing worse than coughing all night and everyone else is asleep !
codene is available over the counter in England
There is a very old cure for this which I was given as a lad by my gran. It is a mixture of vinegar and butter. The vinegar is an antiseptic, and the butter soothes the throat. You take a small saucepan and add about half a cup of vinegar and a knob of butter. Heat it up until all the butter is melted and keep stirring. Then pour a small amount into a cup, and sip it slowly. It is a great cure for any cough or sore throat. Not a great taste, but it works.
Go to your health shop and ask for echinacea , I had a cough very simular to yours I was also catching flu every winter until I took this , what I do is start taking it from end OCT till MAR one a day every day as I said this works for me , NO FLU NO COUGH for 3 yrs , It does state on the cotainer different directions than this I say to do , but again this works for me?
Codine might help, but it’s by perscribtion only.
Available in Canada over the counter.
OMG… I’m sorry to hear you’ve been put on antibiotics. They typically do more harm than good. There’s lots you can do. Get as healthy as you can. Trust me, as a fellow type 2, achieving optimum health through diet and exercise is the absolute best thing you can do to prevent disease. Antibiotics destroy the natural flora in your intestine and open up all kinds of potential for more problems that you surely don’t want to hear about. Pay particular attention to the links to Dr. McDougall’s website and phifoundation.org below.
For type I and type II diabetics (and those who are overweight and could potentially become diabetic). Copy and bookmark the webpages I‘ve listed below… they are invaluable for those with diabetes and/or weight problems…
I’ve found a wonderful book that will help you control your diabetes and minimize or even eliminate the complications. Some folks who became diabetic due to poor diet and obesity are effectively cured by following the advice in this book. I’m a type II (inherited), but it helps all types, especially those who became diabetic due to poor eating habits. It’s by an author who has really done his homework, Patrick Quillin, Phd. It’s called, “The Diabetes Improvement Program”. I have tried his suggestions and found them to be very helpful. I have no complications whatsoever and my blood sugar levels are quite stable. Yes, I still have to take Metformin (Glucophage) daily, but it’s the minimum dosage (500mg) and I only have to take it twice a day. I have been off Metformin for as much as a week, but this was with vigorous exercise. Many, what I call, non-hereditary type IIs (those that don’t have a close relative who had it) have gotten off medication completely, just with diet, exercise, and supplements. So, in some instances, it most certainly can be ‘effectively’ cured. Read more about it here: http://www.diabetesimprovement.com/
The book explains what’s going on in our system and what to do about it. It’s really easy and inexpensive. It’s basically diet, supplements, and exercise. For example, did you know that cinnamon helps blood sugar absorption? It also controls cholesterol and triglycerides. This is according to the USDA: http://www.ars.usda.gov/is/np/fnrb/fnrb0…

I had a mega dry cough and talking to an old lady she told me to warm Apple cider Vinegar and gargle with it but you must swallow the gargle this I done, I found it hard to swallow so into the Vinegar I added 2 teaspoons of honey knowing it was used for easing sore throats Yes Just the job I always use this at this time of the year, a greathome cure
It is horrid to have this type of cough, have you been tested for asthma? A friend of mine had the same problem and getting an inhaler did the trick. In any case, you need to keep your throat lubricated, so drink plenty of water, also suck some nice fruity sweets, the ones which last a long time. They are much better than cough sweets which I hate anyway. Once you are over the cough you probably need to get your immune system charged up a little, especially as you are a Diabetic type 2 (snap). I visited an Apothocary for help from the herbalist as everytime my granddaughter got a cough and cold, I also caught it and it was wearing me out. It was suggested that I take zinc tablets, I take one per day and the Herbalist also made me up a mixture of a few things including Echinacia. It has worked a treat, my grandaughter has not infected me for over a year now. Whilst you have a cold and cough, take Vit C each day, Redoxon is really good and the one you dissolve in water is best. Hope this helps you
I had codeine syrup and found it to be very effective
