i have a 6 months old baby and have a bad cold and cough for about 7 days. been to gp he told me to take paracetamol, but i feel worse. please advise. i am quite dispared now as i am not able to care for my baby properly and my gp wont give anything else.
A natural and very effective way to help your cough is Ginger Tea. Take a fresh ginger root, cut off a 1/2 – 1″ piece, finely mince, pour 8-10 oz of boiling water over the ginger. Steep for a couple of minutes and sip it down. You can repeat this as often as you want. It really works, better than anything I can find at the pharmacy.
When I was breastfeeding, I had a really bad cold and sore throat. Like you, I was told to take paracetamol. I tried to even get some Lockets to soothe my throat a bit but was not allowed to take them.
It was suggested to me (by an elderly lady in the butchers who heard me moaning on the phone to my partner) to get soluble paracetamol, dissolve it in warm water with a touch of fresh orange or squash to make it taste better then gargle each mouthful before swallowing. It isn’t very pleasant but it worked brilliantly for me. I think my little one must have appreciated it too- Mummy stopped having coughing fits when trying to feed!
I also used to take hot honey and lemon in between paracetamol dosage.
Hope you feel better soon!
