Does Swine Flu cause a cytokine storm?

What are the similarities and differences between normal flu, swine flu and Spanish flu (1918 type)? A know the 1918 flu caused a cytokine storm does swine flu?

    Hi, yes, hypercytokinemi can be a possibility with most of the pandemic strains of flu including this one and it’s something that has been seen with bird flu. Hypercytokinemi is seem more in younger people aged 25-45, it’s thought older peoples immune system tends to react more slowly to the virus which prevents this sort of reaction. It can induce a massive overreaction in younger peoples immune systems.

    This is one of the reasons why pandemic flu is worse than normal seasonal flu. But just to point out, it won’t do this to everyone and it is rare and we don’t exactly know what form this virus will take, it’s very much a watch and see. There is no need to actually panic and frankly, panicking will not make any of it go away. We just need to be aware.

    The vast majority of people who catch swine flu will recover with with no complications or need for medical intervention.

    I read on msnbc in may it doesn’t have the same structure that cause this in the 1918 flu.
    So the answer is no I believe
